[Verse 1] King [Am]Arthur and Merlin Once [C]upon a [Dm]time, [G]in a [Dm]land far [Am]away, lived a young boy called [C]Arthur [Dm]and a knight, [C]Sir Kay. [Dm]Though Arthur was [Am]poor, he was clever [C]and bright, and dreamed every day of becoming a knight. [Am]Sir [F]Kay, on the other hand, was grumpy [C]an d mean, [Em]the [Am]most miser[Dm]able knight [Fm]there ever had [Em]been. [Am]He worked [C]Ar thur [F]hard all day and all [C]night, [Em]and [Am]never ever let h[Dm]im out o[Em]f his sight.[Am] [C]One day, the pair rode to an old English town to compete in a contest for the best knight around. All the riders were there, with their horses and [Fm]lan cers. [C]But Sir Kay [Fm]just laughed. He [C]fancied his chances. Then riding his horse to [Dm]the edge of the [C]field, young Arthur helped Kay into armour [Dm]an d shield. [C]But then, Arthur [Am]gasped. Oh [C]no![Dm] Oh [C]my lord! I'm terribly sorry! I've [Am]forgotten your [Dm]sword![Am] [Dm]You [C]dolt! cried Sir [Am]Kay.[C] [Am]You'd [C]better find me one fas[Dm]t, [C]or [Dm]else this year contest [C]may well be [Am]your last. An[Dm]d giving young Arthur [G]a clip [Dm]round the ear, he [Fm]sen t the boy off with [C]his eyes full [Dm]of tears. Up[Am]set and [C]afraid, Arthur ran round all [F]day to look for [C]a sword to take back [Am]to Sir [Dm]Kay. But [Am]try as h[C]e might, h[Am]is l[Dm]ong s[C]earch was in v[F]ain, for [C]all the sword makers had [Am]gone to the [Dm]games. [C]As Arthur turned back, he caught a glint in the air from a strange [Dm]shiny object that stood in the square. A sword in [Em]a stone, [C]like the tales [Em]of old, with a [C]blade of [F]pure [Dm]sil ver and a[F] handle [Fm]of gold. [C]Arthur stretched out a hand, and with [Dm]a heave and a [C]ho, he pulled the gold sword right [Dm]out of the stone. [F]He then held [C]it aloft in a [G]great [C]beam of light. It [Am]was truly a sword [C]that was fit for [Fm]a knight. [Dm]Then the town's [C]mayor, who was just p[Dm]assing by, [Am]stopped dead in his tracks an[Dm]d let out a cry. He [C]pulled the sword from the stone. I saw, it was him! He shall be our new ruler. Long live the king! [Dm]With a flash and a bang, the wizard Merlin appeared, with his pointy blue hat and [C]long [Dm]silver beard. [C]That sword is Excalibur. [G]It was [Dm]trapped in the stone, [C]an d he who removes it shall sit on the throne. [Bb]As a cheer went [Dm]up from the fast -growing crowd, Sir Kay pushed to the [Am]front and [Dm]shouted out loud, [Am]Move away quic[F]k, you [Fm]scruffy young sprout! The king's sword is mine, [Am]now [Dm]I'll pull it out! But though [Am]Sir Kay grunted and twisted and tugged, the sword in the stone just would not budge. And then as Kay stopped, all tired and faint, Arthur grabbed the stuck sword and drew it again. [C]Huzzah! yelled the crowd as they led him through town, and later that day gave him a crown. While Merlin just smiled and shut Arthur a wink For long had he known this boy would be king [C]King Arthur lived [Dm]well in his castle of white With a round table and Merlin and plenty [C]of knights A great [Dm]many children now [Am]know of his name And know he lived happily till the end of his reign you
