small boys in tattered clothing

singing and dancing
and playing penny whistles.
[C]Aesthetically, this is a very attractive
[G]thing to see and to listen to.
[C]so cially and spiritually
it's rather depressing
because [G]small boys are there
for the [C]purpose of [G]begging for
[C]fa vors
from the more well -to -do
[G]citizens
and the tourists [C]one can also find
[G]grown men
[C]many of whom have been
taken from their tribes
[G]and put to [C]work in the mines.
When they get out they come flooding
into the cities looking for work
[G]and they band together
in groups of player[C]s singer[G]s and dancers
and they [C]compete with the same small boys
for the same small favors.
[G]The son[C]g of the
dance we're about to do
illustrates such a scene
in a [G]South African city.
[C]It's called the South African [G]miners boot dance.
