[Verse 1] ANANSI [G]THE SPIDER Once upon a time in [Bm]a village far away, [C]it was time to [D]eat lunch for the day. Mr. [G]Turtle's tummy was a [Bm]-rumbling. [C]He was ready to cook [D]up something. [G]In his garden, Mr. Turtle [Bm]trundled. [C]Under his flippers, yams h[D]e bundled. [G]I shall make a y[Bm]am stew, s[C]aid he. [D]A delicious feast just for me. [G]Into the pot the yams went smush [D]smash smash. [C]He whipped up the stew [D]in it jiffy, in a flash. [G]Yow! It was hot and needed to chill, so he left it on the windowsill. And Nancy, [C]the trickster spider, [D]was nearby. He'd [C]had no [D]lunch, not [G]even a fly. Suddenly, a delicious smell of [D]stew [G]in his [D]nostrils grew [C]and [G]grew. [D]Sniff, sniff! [G]And Nancy followed the smell towards a [D]house [Bm]shaped like a shell. [C]There on the sill [D]was a tasty stew. And yam [C]was his favourite stew [D]too. Anansi knock [G]-knocked on the house of shell. Mr Turtle appeared and sighed as well. Can I eat some of [Em]your stew? [D]Anansi said. But [G]Mr Turtle just shook his head. Mr Turtle thought this was rude. After all, [Em]the stew [D]was his food. [C]No, you can't,[G] he said to Anansi. This tasty feast is just [Bm]for me. [C]Everyone knew [D]Anansi was cheeky. He al[G]ways made plans that were [Bm]sneaky. He [C]suddenly thought of a cunning t[D]rick to eat this stew ever so quick. [G]He said, If I make [Bm]something fly without [C]wings, Mr Turtle, can I [D]try some of your [G]delicious stew? It seemed this couldn't be true. Mr Turtle laughed. [C]Something fly? Without wings? [D]I'd like to see you try! If this [Em]thing can fly fast [G]an d true, then [C]I'll give you all of my [G]tasty [D]stew !" [G]Tee hee hee! Anansi chuckled then too. He knew exactly what to do. He shot a long [D]spider string, so [G]thin you couldn't see [C]a thing. [D]He shot it tow[G]ards the window, where the stew was [D]ready to go. [G]And Nancy [Em]glided [D]on this spider string. Whoosh! [G]It looked like he [Em]was flying! [D]And Nancy slided [Em]and g[D]lided along. The silk string was [G]nice and strong. Soon, he reached the stew pot, and in his eight arms it was caught. Mr Turtle was so surprised, he couldn't believe his turtle eyes. [D]Why, [G]how did you do that? [Bm]said he. And [C]Nancy giggled and [D]danced with glee. Mr. Turtle felt [G]sad and defeated. Little did he know, [G]he'd just been cheated. [Em]You can have all the yam [D]stew. [G]You [C]flew without wings, [D]that is true. I'd like to [G]share this stew, said Anansi. [Bm]Mr. Turtle [C]smiled. [D]Great idea, [G]I agree. [Bm]Slurp! [C]They ate the tasty ste[D]w right up, and often after, [G]together would sup.
